Englands first Youth Hostel

Did you know that the first Youth Hostel in England was founded by York CHA & HF Rambling Club?
Here are some Newspaper cuttings which were printed at the time.

Calling all CHA or HF Rambling Clubs

With the onset of the club’s centenary year drawing ever closer it would be nice to re-establish some of the links with some of the other CHA or HF clubs that were obviously so strong in years gone by (maybe in the form of say ….a joint ramble)
If you are a member of such a club we would love to hear from you
.

If you are able to help please email Alan using the Contact Us link at the top right of these pages

Do you know anyone who was a member of the York C.H.A. & H.F. Rambling Club in the dim and distant past?

York CHA & HF Rambling Club was founded during October 1908 and we will be celebrating its centenary in 2008. Unfortunately, the early records of the Club are no longer available to provide a detailed account of the formative years. In 1942 the Club’s documents which were lodged in York’s Guildhall were destroyed when it was hit by an incendiary bomb. At present we are compiling a booklet of the club’s history and we are appealing to members past and present to help by providing copies of any photographs or information they may have, the club has also had associations with many other groups in the past and it would be great if anything were available from any of them.

Plus news and photographs from our regular Sunday coach rambles, social events and anything that you would like to add
